Useful InformationMountain Huts and Shelters in the Beskidy Mountains and the TatrasCalling for Help in the Mountains
The easiest way to call for help in the mountains is to call the GOPR or TOPR - Mountain Rescue Teams in the Beskidy Mountains (GOPR) and in the Tatras (TOPR). The GOPR and the TOPR number is 0048 601 100 300. Another number is 112 - the universal European emergency number. Remember to say: - who you are, - what has happened, - where it has happened, - how many people are injured, - what their condition is, - what you have already done to help them. Remember to wait for the confirmation from the call operator.
If there is no possibility to call, or the battery has run out - first of all do not panick. One says that if you are lost in the Beskidy Mountains, you will probably be able to find an inhabited place after about 40 minutes of walking down.
But if something serious happened, somebody from our group is hurt or injured - it would be best if one person went for help (preferably with a piece of paper with information about what happened, where and to whom - in case he or she was too stressed to communicate that). If you are alone or there is nobody in the group you could send with an information - try to send light signals with a torch or sound signals - 1 signal every 10 seconds for a minute, then a minute of break (waiting for the answer). The answer will be a signal every 20 seconds for a minute. Of course it is necessary to know the rules of the first aid and have the first-aid kit with you always when trekking in the mountains.
